The current fee by the Australian Psychological Society (APS) is $300. Gillian’s fee is $250 per session, and most clients are out of pocket approximately $100 after a Medicare rebate.
A standard session runs for 50 minutes, and fees are payable at the beginning of the consultation by EFTPOS or credit card.
A Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) can help with the cost of sessions. The current Medicare rebate is $141.05 per session for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. However, you will receive up to 90% of the fee if you have reached your Medicare threshold. You can check your threshold status on the Medicare Express Plus app or through MyGov. You will receive your rebate in session if you bring a debit card and Medicare card to sessions.
Depending on your level of coverage, you may be eligible for a rebate through your private health insurer. Please check with your private health insurance provider if you intend to make a claim. It’s not possible to claim a private health rebate for a session that has been rebated through Medicare. On the day of your session, you will receive a paid invoice emailed to you to claim with your health fund.
We are a private billing practice and therefore no bulk billing services are available.
Your fee includes seeing a psychologist with six years of university studies, regular supervision and thirty hours per year of self-funded professional development. The on-going costs of running a private practice, administration, and time writing letters to your GP as and when required also preclude us from being a bulk billing service.
